✅ Prep and coat 34 automotive racks
✅ SSPC SP 1 – Solvent clean to remove machine oils and containments
✅ SSPC SP 6 - Commercial blast to select racks as per request
✅ Polyamide Epoxy 2 coats 5.0 - 10.0 mils DFT each
✅ Safety Orange color
🔹 Mobilization originally bid on site owner's plant
🔹 Owner plant was unable to provide suitable conditions for scope execution
🔹 DECO presented alternate mobilization to DECO shop operations
🔹 Loading and transport was obstacle for owner
🔹 DECO resolved transportation utilizing provider with drop-deck trailer to maximize multiple rack transport
🔹 There was no increased cost impact due to shop production efficiency
🔹 Color coverage
🔹 Tight nooks and crevices with custom fabricated racks
🔹 Oversized pieces to stage
▪️ Stripe coat applied to all welds and inaccessible areas for added protection
▪️ DECO solved unique orange color match
▪️ Several primers were tested with multiple mock ups
▪️ Discovery: Red base coat achieved perfect orange match
▪️ Color shade variations per coating application allows quick visual inspection ID for complete coating compliance
✅ Oversized unit staging
✅ Overhead crane operation
✅ Unload & load
This case was a field rack application converted to DECO Method. We were given 1800 lb automotive racks that the owner has assumed were too large, awkward, and costly for transport.
First, they were staged for field application. Staging challenges were mobilization and cost over runs that occurred from the project at the onset.
How DECO Coatings completed the project:
🔹 The DECO Method was proposed to rack stakeholders which included oversized drop deck transportation to accommodate four racks per load. DECO Method efficiencies captured shipping costs to negate any budget increases.
🔹 DECO also provided protection during loading and shipping, resulting in minimal field touch up which DECO included as part of the service.
🔹 Racks has a factory finish and proper cure time.
🔹Preparation and controlled environment were key factors in the success.
🔹 Some racks required blasting due to existing paint failure, and others required special cleaning of cutting oils from being newly fabricated.
What was interesting about this project:
Unique orange color pigmentation required high solid vibrant base which was achieved through testing a series of mock-ups. 34 racks were completed with minimal field touch up. DECO took care of all transportation logistics, delivered finished racks, and had minimal touch up in the field.
