DECO METHOD – Security (Long) Gate
✅ Prep and Coat 40' x 8' aluminum gate
✅ SSPC SP 1 – Solvent clean to remove oils and contaminants
✅ Create surface profile with etching process
✅ Seal tack welding voids
✅ Extreme Bond Acrylic Primer 1 coat: 1.0 - 2.0 DFT
✅ High Solids Polyeurethane 2 coats: 3.0 - 4.0 mils DFT each
🔹 DECO crossed spec over from powder coating to liquid as alternate to accommodate gate size
🔹 Eliminated dip/bake process
🔹 Gate was shipped to Ohio
🔹 Excellent coating adhesion - no touch up was needed even after installation
🔹 Staging the gate for the work processes: the custom design rigging attachment had to be engineered for balancing the gate weight when it was lifted in order to protect the welds
🔹 Space utilization - the gate was one large piece that could not be broken up, and the space could only be used for that item instead of multiple jobs items
🔹 Product used was extremely fast drying: needed to use accelerated speed during application to prevent overspray flashing
▪️ Proto-type gate - sealant applied to all welds
▪️ Extended asset protection by protecting against moisture intrusion
▪️ Designed tripod suspension hoist to distribute suspension weight during coating process applications
✅ Special handling: loading and unloading to prevent damage to the finish was imperative
About this project:
This project was a 40 ft security gate. We were selected due to our capacity to prepare, seal, and coat a large gate of this size in one continuous fabrication. We also submitted drawings to the fabrication compan to suspend the gate for coating while balancing the weight to avoid stress on welds.
How DECO shined on this project:
🔹 The outcome developed into a prototype suspension that will be used on future projects.
🔹 Smaller gates are typically powder coated; however, the liquid coating process and finish is warrantied which gives the owner better value.
🔹 The appearance was a factory finish.
🔹 Even with shipping and installation, no touch up was needed.
🔹 Our climate controlled environment was a key element in the success of this project.
